Arimo Font
by Steve Matteson
About This Font
Arimo by Steve Matteson is a metrically compatible Arial alternative from Ascender Corporation with 4 styles. Google commissioned it for Chrome OS as part of the Croscore fonts collection. Matteson originally developed it as Ascender Sans while at Ascender (now Monotype).
The font serves as a drop-in replacement for Arial. Documents swap between them without reflow or layout changes. Each style packs 2,584 glyphs with pan-European WGL character set coverage – Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, and Hebrew scripts included.
Matteson improved on-screen readability while maintaining exact Arial metrics. This solves document portability across platforms. Also serves as the basis for Liberation Sans. Free under Apache License 2.0 through Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts.
Perfect for projects needing Arial compatibility without licensing constraints.
