About This Font
Impact by Geoffrey Lee is an ultra-bold sans serif from URW Type Foundry with 3 styles. This English designer created it in 1965 while serving as Type Director at Pembertons Advertising. Stephenson Blake foundry originally released it.
Lee designed Impact for maximum visual punch. Writing in 2004, he explained the goal was “to get as much ink on paper as possible in a given size with the maximum possible x-height.” The ultra-thick strokes, compressed spacing, and minimal counters deliver exactly that.
Microsoft bundled it with Windows 98, making it one of the core web fonts. St. Pancras railway station and IMDb both use it for their logos. The 2010s brought meme fame. Complete URW version includes regular, condensed, and outline styles.
